Ever since we chose THREE CUPS OF TEA for the Beverly Reads book o' the year, it seems to be everywhere!

Saturday I went to the Concord Museum to see the Family Trees. This is an amazing exhibit that shows trees based on children's books made by members of the community. And one of the trees was from Listen to the Wind: The Story of Dr. Greg and Three Cups of Tea, by Greg Mortenson and Susan L. Roth!

This is my favorite of the three versions of the book. The story is distilled down to it's simplest form and the art is just beautiful. And here it was on a tree!

I did not take a picture because they asked me not to. I am a better listener than the person who took that picture to the right! The exhibit runs until January 3 if you are interested in seeing the tree - and the 29 other amazing works of art!

I am pleased to report that Susan Roth, the illustrator of LISTEN TO THE WIND will be speaking about her art as part of our celebration. Publishers Weekly says of her book. "[Roth's] work has a welcoming, tactile dimension—readers would want to touch the fabric headscarves, for example. A detailed scrapbook featuring photos from Three Cups of Tea and an artist's note firmly ground the book in fact."

And don't forget to join us for the kickoff event on Sunday, January 31 at 3 PM at the Beverly Public Library. Sample international foods and delicious teas, view artwork inspired by favorite books created by local students, and enjoy the wonderful storytelling of Tony Toledo.

THREE CUPS OF TEA

The book that Beverly will be reading this year is THREE CUPS OF TEA by Greg Mortenson. It is the story about his work building schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan and the events that started him on his humanitarian journey.

Retired Beverly Police officer Joe DiAngelo is excited about reading the book.
